let's make rental housing pet friendly

Research indicates that companion animals are more like family to a growing number of Canadians.

According to a recent national survey conducted by researchers at the University of Saskatchewan in partnership with Paws in Places, the PAWSitive Connections Lab, and Angus Reid Group, these posters collaboratively designed with Humane Canada share what the latest research tells us!

Yet many property owners, managers and rental associations do not allow pets – especially dogs – in their units or facilities.

Let's make rental housing pet friendly!

2022 pets in housing project

Did You Know that

  1. the Saskatoon Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) cares for approximately 4,000 animals each year?
  2. a significant portion of the animals surrendered are pets that cannot move with their humans because of the lack of pet-friendly rentals?
  3. making rental properties pet-friendly is good for business?

Pet-friendly rental housing is limited in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. We know that increasing the amount of pet-friendly rentals is a win for both renter and landlord. Understanding your rights and obligations when renting with pets is an important part of being a responsible pet caretaker. Making your properties pet-friendly is good for business.

Based off the great work of others across Canada, and local partnerships, our renter and landlord guide can help answer your questions and make Saskatoon more pet-inclusive!
